Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Mexican Baroque Concert
May 23, 2025 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5250 Justin Rd, La Crosse, WI 54601, USA
Relive the musical glory of 17th-Century México.
Music from New Spain. La Grande Bande, an ensemble of professional orchestral and vocal specialists in the Baroque period, conducted by founder Michael Asmus, will present music written by Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, the music director of the Basílica Catedral Metropolitana in Puebla, México from 1628 until 1664. This is a not to be missed opportunity to hear grand, indigenous, Mexican Sacred Music in Our Lady’s Shrine.
Join us as we celebrate the music of Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, the Cathedral’s famed music director from 1628 to 1664. His music played a key role in the Cathedral’s consecration in 1649.
Pre-concert lecture at 6:45pm.
