World Day for Consecrated Life (celebrated in parishes)
World Day for Consecrated Life (celebrated in parishes)
February 7, 2026 - February 8, 2026
In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on Feb. 2. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day, the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So, too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church.

About Servant of God Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration Thea Bowman
Sister Thea shared the message of God's love through a teaching career. After 16 years of teaching at the elementary, secondary, and university levels, the bishop of Jackson, Miss., invited her to serve as the consultant for intercultural awareness. In her role as consultant, Sister Thea, an African American, gave presentations across the country; lively gatherings that combined singing, gospel preaching, prayer and storytelling. Her programs were directed to break down racial and cultural barriers. She encouraged people to communicate with one another so that they could understand other cultures and races. Sister Thea was diagnosed with breast cancer and died in 1990. The Diocese of Jackson opened her cause for canonization (sainthood) in 2018.
Q. What are the steps to sainthood?
A. Sister Thea's official canonization website offers a great look at the stages and phases. The events on Feb. 9 complete Stage I, Phase I.

Kevin Matthews was the top disc jockey in Chicago on The Loop.Millions of people tuned into his radio station every day.A tragic health event led him to a broken statue of Mary, where he heard a voice say,“Will you deny me? Will you deny My mother?”Realizing this was the voice of Jesus, Kevin embraced the statue of Mary and had the two pieces glued back together, but left the remaining chips and broken pieces as they were.“She is broken, just like I am”, Kevin realized.Kevin asked a priest to bless the statue, and that is when the miracles began.Since then, Kevin has been traveling with this Broken Mary statue, bringing healing to our broken world.
We are all broken, but we are loved by God. Come with your own brokenness and hear his story of God’s healing.
